OVERVIEW
Boca Grande Historical Society (the Society) is an organization of more than 500 individual and family members. Our mission is the collection and preservation of Boca Grande, Gasparilla Island, regional and Florida history which we share with the community through access to our archives/exhibits and through a variety of outreach programs and educational events that bridge the past to our contemporary society.
The History Center houses our archival work and several exhibit areas that display various aspects of Island history. Outreach/Education programs present area history to the Island School (K-5) through “Florida History Alive” and to the whole community through the History Bytes oral history programs, professional lectures, book discussions (Let’s Talk About Florida) and photographic and art exhibits (Boca Grande: Then and Now) as well as topical videos such as the Island during Covid.
Founded in 1995, the Society has grown significantly in membership, donations, grants, and other forms of support as well as in the scope of its archival/exhibit activities and its Outreach/Education programs. Our goal is to continue growing through involvement with the community, including long-time residents and those who have come to the area more recently, with both experiencing the excitement of Island history and its uniqueness today.
The purposes of the Society are:
• To bring together for mutual benefit and enjoyment people who are interested in Boca Grande’s and the region’s history;
• To collect and preserve historic documents, photos, artifacts, and other items related to Gasparilla Island’s and the region’s past, and make them accessible to others;
• To sponsor activities designed to promote an enhanced interest in and knowledge of local, regional, and Florida history;
• To provide educational programs that meet professional standards of scholarship and historical accuracy;
• To promote a better understanding of the relationship of our past to the present and to the future.

Location of position: The position is located in Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island in Florida.

Salary and benefits: The range is $57,000 -70,000 with an additional $600 monthly stipend to cover benefits costs.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the board president and in support of the board of directors, this brand-new position of Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Society’s programs, which include fundraising, marketing, community engagement, volunteers, and fulfillment of its mission. The Executive Director will be responsible for the ongoing implementation of the strategic plan, which will help guide and transition responsibilities from the board to this newly created position. The Executive Director manages an Administrative Director and volunteers. The Executive Director represents the Society in the community, participates in events which increase awareness of our history, expands community outreach, and performs duties which fosters donations of relevant artifacts and funds to the organization. The History Center is a separate organization, and the new ED will collaborate with its leadership to help support their work.
