Director of Philanthropy

Summary: The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (C’mon) is seeking a Director of Philanthropy (DOP). The position reports to the Executive Director and is a part of the Museum’s executive team. The DOP is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive private and public sector fundraising program on behalf of C’mon and to enhance the mission and vision established by the Board of Directors. The DOP is also responsible for supervising staff in data and events management including solicitations, event materials, web publications and public relations.

Reports to: Executive Director

Major Duties

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive moves management development strategy that includes annual fund, major gifts, grants, planned gifts, gift recognition and endowment development.

  • Design and implement a comprehensive development program, including all fund-raising events. Monitor and analyze outcomes from development programs/strategies including evaluation of cost effectiveness.

  • Oversee the design and maintenance of C’mon development-related database. Ensure database meets the needs of staff and reporting requirements for funders.

  • As a member of the C’mon Executive Team, work with senior staff to ensure the C’mon mission is supported and furthered.

  • Under the Executive Director’s leadership, maintain working relationships with the C ’ m o n Board and its committees and the active, ongoing, and smooth functioning of this Board as it seeks to increase private and public sector funding for C’mon.

  • Prepare reports and briefings as requested by the Executive Director to be utilized by C’mon Board, Board committees, Executive Director and staff.

  • Proactively coordinate, actively cultivate and consistently relationships in moves management/database. Solicit major and annual gifts from current and prospective donors to ensure ongoing philanthropic resources.

  • Develop and manage C’mon’s fund raising budgets. Forecast expenditures and income targets. Monitor and adjust budgets as necessary.

  • Seek new corporate/foundation funding sources and maintain relationships with current and past donors; prepare grant requests, monitor grant requirements and submit grant reports. Represent C’mon in meeting with potential funding sources.

  • Work with senior staff to ensure that C’mon publications, web content and other media content further the Museum’s development interests.

  • Partner with staff, board and development committee to develop all solicitation materials, campaign brochures, and any other development-related materials, including the Museum’s Annual Report.

  • Participate in long and short term strategic planning, development and review of policies, systems and procedures.

  • Train and mentor employees and communicate fundraising goals and progress

  • Follow all C’mon human resource policies and procedures. Management of the Development team

    adherence to human resource policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

  • Development/Fundraising: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in direct

    solicitation of major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants and annual fund contributions.

  • Team work: As a member of the leadership team a positive attitude and manner in which you address the C’mon guests, donors, volunteers and staff is necessary. Furthermore, leadership in developing an ethos where integrity, hard work, creativity, individual development and accountability are the culture of a supportive and harmonious workplace.

  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones; knowledge of the Southwest Florida philanthropic community desired.

  • Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

  • Computer: General computer literacy, internet knowledge, database management and experience with basic Microsoft Office, Sales Force and VeeVart software.

  • Project Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress.

  • Influencing: Get others to accept ideas by using convincing arguments, create a win-win situation and respond appropriately to donors, board members and staff.

  • Collaboration: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives for the betterment of the mission.

  • General: Bachelor’s degree in fund raising, philanthropic studies or related field. Must pass a background check and be fingerprinted. Able lift up to 25 lbs, bend, reach, and stretch without assistance

    Working Conditions:

  • General office and Museum environment

  • Moderate amount of local travel

  • Constant interaction with public

  • Limited exposure to environmental hazards that may arise through normal tasks in this position.
