The Senior Director of Development assists in the identification, cultivation and formulation of solicitation plans for prospective donors capable of making major gifts to Lee Memorial Health System. Researches, evaluates and prepares written proposals for individuals and corporations. Develops and maintains long-term relationships with individuals and groups that result in planned or major gifts to the Foundation. Designs, implements and maintains an annual giving program to include donor recognition activities associated with giving levels.


Specific Job Standards:

  • Personally visits major gift prospects/donors, and coordinates tours or meetings with Lee Health system leaders, physicians, board members, or volunteers to cultivate and solicit major gifts in order to meet or exceed annual metrics and goals.
  • Verbally or in writing solicits donors to make gifts of $25,000+ for established system priorities, using various gift vehicles including cash, securities, bequests, trusts, or annuities, meeting annual metrics and goals.
  • Follows up with major gift prospects/donors in writing or by phone to maintain continuous communication.
  • Enters or prepares for entry contact reports to be entered in Raisers Edge software.
  • Works with Foundation staff members to identify prospective donors through events, mailings, or other vehicles, and attends other community events to identify major gift prospects for possible cultivation.
  • Identifies, visits, and works with professional legal and financial advisors locally or nationally to aid clients wishing to make philanthropic gifts.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts or Science required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preparation in Philanthropy preferred.
  • 1 year’ Fundraising experience required.
  • CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification preferred.
