POSITION OVERVIEW: Collaborating with and reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization’s fundraising, messaging, expansion of programs, community outreach, staff, programs and execution of its mission. The ED will initially develop a deep knowledge of the field, core programs, operations, strategic and governance plans. S/he is also responsible for building relationships with board members, donors, funding organizations, community partners, and others to accomplish the organization’s mission, vision and strategic priorities. The ED position will be tasked with continuing the work of the all-volunteer board & community leaders, while at the same time offering new ways to engage the community.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:
Leadership & Management:
• Demonstrate and communicate a clear vision for the organization.
• Actively engage and energize Board members, staff, volunteers, committees, partner organizations, funding organizations, and donors.
• Develop and maintain a strong organizational culture based on the mission, vision and values of Resilient Retreat.
• Coordinate and implement ongoing strategic planning, including the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan to move the mission forward and fulfill the vision of the organization.
• Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.
• Develop and oversee an organizational structure that best moves the mission forward and fulfill its vision.
• Lead and delegate responsibilities to carry out the Strategic Plan.
Program and Operational Management
• Support the operations and administration of the Board of Directors by advising and informing its members, recommending policy, and providing clear and accurate reports for the Board to effectively monitor the organization’s progress on the Strategic Plan.
• In collaboration with the Board of Directors, manage all programs from development through to program implementation.
• Monitor clients to ensure program goals are met and adjust as needed with the support of the Board of Directors.
• Lead programming needs, such as scheduling appointments and assisting trauma survivors at appointments.
• Approaches all work with a trauma-informed perspective.
• Lead efforts among staff to partner with existing work in the region including funder networks, governmental and quasi-governmental work groups, work groups that focus on the needs of children and youth, work groups that focus on the needs of aging adults, work groups that focus on income equity, and work groups that focus on equity in marginalized populations (e.g. race, gender, ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation & preference, etc.).
• Together with staff and content area experts, establish evaluation systems and organizational processes to monitor program outcomes and improve quality services.
• Manage the efficient and effective day to day operations of programs and practices.
• Plan for and manage new capital and improvement projects as needs arise.
Human Resources Planning and Management:
• Assess human resource needs and presents a human resource plan to the Board for approval, as needed.
• Effectively manage the organization, including contracted services.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate the team. Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high-performance team in the implementation of the mission, vision, and organizational values and goals.
• Establish job descriptions and an annual performance plan for staff. Conduct annual performance reviews. Recommend merit increases based upon performance.
• Coach and mentor staff to continuously achieve higher levels of performance.
• Provide Board with meaningful recommendations regarding staff performance, training, compensation, and benefits.
• Develop and implement compensation and benefit plans, based upon the Board’s direction.
Financial Planning and Compliance:
• Prepare and present for approval the annual budget, with the Board’s direction and guidance. Monitors the cash flow and provides regular, comprehensive reports to the Board on revenues and expenditures.
• Works with the Board to secure adequate funding for operations and capital projects.
• Working with the Board’s finance committee, ensure sound bookkeeping, expense and accounting procedures are followed, including maintaining accurate banking records; producing payroll; paying all invoices; and, providing accurate information for the preparation of all state, local, payroll and federal tax reports and requirements.
• Maintain all necessary registrations and certifications to comply with state requirements for non-profits.
• Be vigilant in seeking prompt and effective enforcement and compliance to any relevant laws.
Fundraising and Communications:
• Oversee the implementation of the strategic development plan designed to raise needed funds for annual operating, capital projects, and endowment building.
• Serve as the official spokesperson. Promote the organization and advocate for people in the community to government and other funding agencies, the press, service recipients and their families, donors, and the public.
• Oversee the creation of a strong brand in all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations.
• Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The successful candidate will have experience and a proven track record in:
 Convening and engaging multi-sector groups, analyzing data and trends to create action plans for volunteer and staff support, and developing trauma programs.
 Engaging & training stakeholders of various educational, racial, socio-economic backgrounds to move through development, implementation & evaluation of initiatives.
 Facilitating multi-layered decision making with a focus on equity, economic and political inclusion.
 Implementing best practices in the trauma field and the ability to adapt and adjust to circumstances as needed.
 Passionately communicating a vision for the community and the organization in public forums so as to ignite passion in staff, volunteers and the community and in support of the organization and its mission, vision and goals.
 Negotiating, consensus-building and representation in various levels of community and government.
 Leading a successful capital campaign of $5M or more.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Passion for the mission of Resilient Retreat.
• Bachelor’s degree, with Master's degree in Business or Human Services preferred. CFRE credential preferred.
• Overall 10+ years of career progression in non-profit organizations, with a proven track record of 3-5 years in a senior management leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience and examples of leading strategies that have taken organizations to the next level of growth.
• Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Public speaking & media expertise (all group sizes, ages and backgrounds).
