The Hermitage Artist Retreat is a multi-disciplinary artist retreat uniquely serving artists, the creative process, and the community. Located on a nine-acre beachside campus in Manasota Key at the southern tip of Sarasota County, Florida, we provide diverse and accomplished artists with multi-week residencies to create new works of art, theater, music, literature, and more. Our Hermitage Fellows have described their experiences as “life-changing” and “transformative,” regularly noting that they accomplish more in two weeks at the Hermitage than they otherwise might do in two years. The award-winning original works created at the Hermitage are presented in renowned concert halls, theaters, museums, and galleries throughout our region and across the globe. Reporting to the Development Director, the Grants Manager will be methodical, strategic, and resourceful in managing grants relations, identifying new sources of funding, and developing a sustainable and effective grants database and program. The Grants Manager will be fully accountable for a portfolio of existing grants and developing a larger portfolio of grants that are aligned with the mission. The Grants Manager will develop a deep understanding of the Hermitage’s mission, vision, and needs, and be well equipped to seek grant opportunities to help sustain those needs on a short-term and long-term basis. Duties include managing overall grant efforts; writing and submitting all government, foundation, and other eligible grants; identifying new sources of grant funding locally, nationally, and internationally; optimizing the grants administration process; preparing and delivering concise progress reports; ensuring and reporting on compliance with grant regulations and expectations; reviewing grant proposals; managing the grants database; fostering relationships with donor agencies and foundations; and preparing financial reports.
• Efficiently maintain and sustain the grants database, ensuring the accuracy of data, the ability to report, and the opportunity to track compliance to new and existing grants.
• Navigate through recent and archived grants that have previously been submitted and approved, and cull through other promotion and copy materials, as well as special program descriptions, and write an effective grant that is careful, thoughtful, and professional.
• Continually research and explore new grant opportunities through foundations and organizations supporting the arts, as well as other historical, ecological, educational, and community programs, and determine which opportunities are aligned with our mission.
• Research and fully understand the mission, vision, and objectives of the Hermitage to the degree they can represent the Hermitage and its constituents in a compelling manner.
• Write and communicate an effective and efficient narrative that can be implemented and adapted for a myriad of grant applications.
• Develop financial tracking and reporting and prepare progress reports as requested.
• Track and monitor the results of all applications. For those applications that are declined, research what we could have done better or differently, and be prepared to re-apply for grants.
• Maintain positive relationships with fund providers, foundations, agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Attend and participate in Hermitage programs, special events, and other “all hands on deck” activities.
• Participate as needed in special projects at the direction of the Artistic Director/CEO and Development Director.
• A passion for the Hermitage’s mission and the organization’s commitment to supporting artists, the creative process, and the community.
• Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills; strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills are essential.
• The ability to represent the interests of the Hermitage and the voice of its Artistic Director/CEO accurately to artists, partners and collaborators, and other constituents.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with diplomacy and discretion.
• The ability to take accurate notes, summarize and retain information, and seamlessly translate into future communications.
• Facility in managing multiple priorities and time-sensitive deadlines.
• Organizational and project-planning skills are paramount, as is the management and coordination of multiple institutional partnerships.
• A sense of ambition, initiative, and resourcefulness.
• Flexible to work evenings and weekends, as needed, in support of artist programs and donor events on campus and throughout our region.
• Proficiency with management software, including databases.
• Proficiency with all Microsoft Office, Google G-Suite applications, Zoom and other relevant applications.
• Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent, or higher.
• Familiarity with Salesforce a plus.
